What’s next for Jedward?

Jayne Middlemiss, who appeared on Celebrity Love Island, feels very strongly that there is a damaging impact on reality TV contestants once the show is over. It seems like a good time to throw this point open for discussion following Simon Cowell’s decision to save Jedward on the X Factor over the weekend.

Jeremy meanwhile thinks that people should know what they are getting themselves into when they sign up for a show. He himself did a series of Celebrity Big Brother and says after the show finished he carried on with his life as normal (enjoying the money he received).

Should we the British public treat reality contestants like Jedward in the cruel way we do? Do former reality contestants deserve the negative aftermath of appearing on a high profile show? What should be done to protect them when they return to their normal lives?

"No one enters reality TV now a days without knowing how it turns out, instead of striving for five minutes of fame people should try working as hard at getting a decent job, if reality Tv destroys anyones lives its their own fault!" Posted by Brian Reid - Ardrossan 10th November 2009  at  02:14pm

"Give them their own childrens type programm, and record as a single for Xmas,Ghost Busters. WISHING THEM ALL THE BEST.

"i have been a fan of reality television since the first big brother way back when, but i must say i was utterly disgusted with simon cowell on sunday night, ive always been a fan of his judgement but his vote was purley tatical and not to save that incredibly talented girl was absolutly disgracefull he should be ashamed of himself and those twins should be pushed of the edge of a cliff!" "The X-Factor (correct me if i'm wrong) is a singing contest and there i think is the wrong place for Jedward, although i love watching them their like my guilty pleasure also its hilarious to watch my dad get so wound up grin" Posted by Chelsea - Liverpool 10th November 2009  at  02:20pm

"Hi Angela, i think what needs to be addressed, is that do we want good singers or good entertainers? John & Edward are completley unique, ok a bit of a gimmick" but people have to remember that primarily x factor is an entertainment show and not a singing show. Ok they can't sing, but they can entertain and do it extremley well! people want to see more of them, and what is still under there sleeves, and with all the publicity they are getting anyway, is it a wonder they are still in?" "I think it's amazing how supposedly hated people boost TV ratings... Jedward on X Factor... Nick Griffin on Question Time... Giant Haystacks on the Wrestling... What next Osama's Story Time on CBeebies?" Posted by Greg Scott - Berkshire 10th November 2009  at  02:46pm

"i think jedward are rubbish,a few weeks ago simon did't like them,so why did he get rid of them,he shud not of been allowed to go for a public vote, lucie was by far the better singer,if even he thinks she won't win.it's all about money, money, money, especially with mr cowell!!!" "they are like marmite you either love them or hate them. whats next for them I hate to think raspberry" Posted by fi - midlands 10th November 2009  at  03:17pm

"I do not know what all the fuss is about. At the end of the day the X Factor is a show that is sucessfull due to public voting, and the fact is Jedward got more public votes than Lucie, so why should Simon Cowell save her, the public didn't!!!
If they wanted Lucie in more people should have voted." Posted by Rebecca - Goole 10th November 2009  at  03:19pm

"I think it's a sin what people are saying about John & Edward, they are only wee boys having fun, they are still in the show as the public like them and are keeping them in no one else, leave them alone" Posted by Elaine Hann - dunfermline 10th November 2009  at  04:24pm

"Why all this public uproar over a public vote!!! If the winner will be looking for public support to buy their music and attend their concerts, should it not be up to the public. i.e least votes first out. So what if the majority don't like Jedward...you have learned your lesson! Go vote and stop complaining." Posted by Ann-Marie - Dublin 10th November 2009  at  06:08pm

"if they ruin queen song next week like they did 2 weeks ago i will kill them but they are good looking tho lol they should of went off last week while they were at the bottem two and simon said"if they dont go im leaving the country" but he left it to the public vote

love the show and u in waterloo road keep the good work up xxxx" Posted by vinnie - arklow ireland 10th November 2009  at  06:59pm

"Jedward can't sing they are terrible nd lucie was amazing + simon cowell more like simon coward scared of making a decision" Posted by joggers - Birmingham 10th November 2009  at  07:06pm

"Does anyone think that one of them looks the spit of James Dean" Posted by Simon - Northampton 12th November 2009  at  07:09pm

"Yes lucy was good and jedward were really bad, however, we all must remember that they're only 17 and that they auditioned because they thought they were good singers - they have been kept in because people keep flippin' voting for them!
I do believe that Simon's decision was a tactical one as obviously he wants to keep all 3 of his acts and at the same time he was sending a message through to voters.
Stop looking to blame Simon and start voting for your fav. act before another potential star is lost!" Posted by james - warwick 10th November 2009  at  07:57pm

"i think simon had made the wrong dision because all through the show he has been complaning about the boys but, when he had the chance to get rid off them he gave it to the public!well yes i would like to see there dancing again as it was entertaining but the x factor is about singing.lucy was fantastic my favourite in the show im sad shes gone ,so i think it was all a sunt to get more veiwers but infact most people cant stand simon now so it will be less. simon, next time think before you act!" Posted by charlotte - warwick 10th November 2009  at  08:17pm

"I believe that they are on the wrong tv show to have any sort of music record. Lewis even said himself that the boys cant sing, and that they could well be the next ant and dec.. surely they should be removed for the compertition as its about singing, and clearly all they do is mess around! my one year old could do a better job!" Posted by Emma - Cornwall 11th November 2009  at  10:21am

"Jedward should be binned - they are awful. Can't sing, can't dance, why are they on the show???

Loved this video of rubbish removal company getting rid of the terrible twins: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_wfG1CT1rg" Posted by Mandy - London 18th November 2009  at  11:23am
